Your doctor has recommended these instructions to help prepare you for your colonoscopy.

Please fill your prescription at least 3 days before your procedure. Please talk to your doctor about any questions you have regarding this preparation. Patients who take medications on a regular basis (including but not limited to Coumadin, aspirin, pradaxa, effient and Plavix) should consult their doctor regarding their use in preparation for colonoscopy.

Day before Colonoscopy

  1. Decrease fiber in your diet and avoid seeds, nuts, and corn for 3 days prior to procedure. You must have ONLY clear liquids the entire day before your colonoscopy. This includes water, jello, broth, clear fruit juices (apple, white grape, Gatorade), and black coffee and be sure to drink at least 2 quarts of fluids; the average fluid loss during the prep is 3-4 quarts. You may not consume solid food or milk products the entire day before and until after your procedure is completed. Failure to comply with any of these instructions may lead to poor prep and it may become necessary to repeat your exam.
  2. Reconstitute the MoviPrep as directed. You should begin the preparation between 5:00 and 6:00PM. Drink the first liter of MoviPrep solution over one hour (one 8 ounce glass every 15 minutes) and then drink 0.5 liters (approximately 16 ounces) of the clear liquid of your choice over the next hour. You may continue to consume these clear liquids for the remainder of the evening.
  3. You are encouraged to continue to consume clear liquids, as this will improve the quality of the bowel preparation and help to prevent dehydration.

The Morning of Your Colonoscopy

We understand that this may be an inconvenience, but this method provides a better view of the colon and will increase the polyp detection rate.

  1. Drink the next liter of MoviPrep (one 8 ounce glass every 15 minutes) followed by 16 ounces of a clear liquid.
  2. Essential medications should be taken with no more than 2 oz. of water at least 2 hours prior to your procedure. Do not consume anything else within 4 hours of your procedure (including water, candy, mints and gum), or your procedure may be delayed or cancelled.
  3. Arrive for colonoscopy at scheduled time. Please bring a list of all medications that you are taking and allergies if applicable.

Notes:

  • If you develop discomfort or distention (bloating), stop drinking the solution for a while or wait longer between drinking each glass until the discomfort goes away.
  • Do not take any other medicines within 1 hour of starting to drink the solution
  • Nausea, cramping and abdominal fullness are the most common adverse reactions.
